Naples: Kevin De Bruyne set to leave

Kevin De Bruyne may not continue his spell in Naples beyond this season. With his contract approaching its expiry, discussions over an extension are reportedly close to an impasse, according to journalist Nicolo Schira.

An increasingly uncertain extension

Having arrived in Naples last summer after leaving Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne chose to continue his career in Serie A. However, his first few months in Italy were marked by disagreements with Antonio Conte, particularly over tactical issues. The Italian coach has since left the club and been replaced by Massimiliano Allegri.

De Bruyne recently denied reports of a possible departure. “No, I haven’t really spoken to anyone about it.” But according to Nicolo Schira, the situation may have changed. Discussions between the player and Napoli over an extension are now reportedly close to breaking down.

A contract expiring at the end of the season

Kevin De Bruyne’s contract with Napoli currently runs until June 2027. In the absence of an agreement over an extension, the Belgian midfielder could therefore leave the club as a free agent at the end of the season. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, the 35-year-old continues to contribute in attack. He currently has six goals and five assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.

After just one season in Italy, Kevin De Bruyne could thus bring his spell at Naples to an end. For now, no official decision has been announced, but contract negotiations have become an important factor in determining the next step of his career.
