Neymar announces his international retirement with Brazil

Neymar's journey in the Brazil jersey has come to an end. The day after the Seleção’s elimination in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup against Norway (2-1), the 34-year-old forward announced he is calling time on his international career.

After scoring Brazil’s only goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time, Neymar confirmed that his dream of winning a World Cup with his country will remain unfulfilled.

“I tried, I tried. I started here, I finished here. Now, it’s over.”

With these words, the former FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player was referencing MetLife Stadium, where he made his debut for the Seleção in 2010 during a friendly against the United States.

This announcement marks the end of an era for Brazil. After carrying the Seleção for more than fifteen years, Neymar is definitively closing the chapter on his international career, leaving behind the legacy of one of the greatest players in Brazilian football history, despite the elusive world title that always slipped through his fingers.
