Official: Lamine Sonko signs with AS Saint-Etienne

This Wednesday, a new signing has landed at AS Saint-Etienne. Les Verts have announced the arrival of Lamine Sonko, who previously played for Jura Sud (N3).

ASSE finalized the arrival of Lamine Sonko from Jura Sud (National 3) this Wednesday. The Senegalese forward has signed his first professional contract, a two-year deal that ties him to the Stéphanois club until 2028. The transfer comes just days before the Ligue 2 season kicks off.

To recap, in Senegal, over four years wearing the blue and white of AS Dakar Sacré-Cœur, Lamine Sonko made his mark as a talented striker and climbed all the way to Ligue 1, the top tier of Senegalese football. His performances drew attention as far as France, where he joined Annecy for a trial before ultimately signing with Jura Sud in 2024.

Now tied to ASSE until 2028, Lamine Sonko expressed his delight: "I am very happy to sign this professional contract with ASSE, and very proud to be here wearing these green colors. This is a childhood dream come true, and now I will work even harder to earn my place in this great club."

Loïc Perrin, ASSE's Sporting Director, also commented on the deal: "Lamine is a player joining us from the amateur ranks. At 22, he will initially strengthen our reserve side, but with an eye towards the first team. He's a type of striker we didn't have in our reserve squad—capable of holding up the ball, and boasting impressive athletic and technical qualities."
