Pep Guardiola refuses to become Italy's national coach

Pep Guardiola will ultimately not take charge of the Italian national team. Approached by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), the Spanish manager turned down the offer, citing personal and family reasons.

In their search for a new head coach, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has faced a major setback. Invited to lead the Azzurri, Pep Guardiola declined the proposal, choosing instead to take a break and dedicate time to his family before considering a return to the dugout.

According to information from Gianluca Di Marzio, Guardiola made his final decision known during the night of July 23 to 24 to the FIGC's new technical director, Paolo Maldini, as well as the federation's ambassador, Leonardo.

The former Manchester City manager explained that his refusal was not motivated by any sporting reasons, but solely by his desire to spend time with his family and take a break before returning to the bench.

"I am honored, but I don't feel ready," the Spanish coach is reported to have said.

Andrea Pirlo now the favorite

The Italian Federation had hoped to convince one of the most decorated managers in modern football history to lead the Azzurri. Despite genuine interest, the deal ultimately fell through.

Following the rejection from Pep Guardiola, Andrea Pirlo has now emerged as the leading candidate to take charge of the Italian national team.
