Cristiano Ronaldo’s time with the Portuguese national team is not over. New coach Jorge Jesus has included the Al-Nassr forward in his first squad, confirming that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is continuing his international career after the 2026 World Cup.

Ronaldo continues his journey with Portugal

At 41, Cristiano Ronaldo therefore remains an important part of Portugal’s team. The forward had announced that the 2026 World Cup would be his final World Cup, but that decision does not necessarily mean an immediate international retirement. Jorge Jesus has chosen to keep the Portuguese captain for the upcoming fixtures.

Ronaldo will notably reunite with several key players from the national team, including Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Vitinha, João Neves and Rúben Neves. The squad also includes Rafael Leão, João Félix, Pedro Neto, Gonçalo Ramos and Francisco Conceição in the attacking department.

Jorge Jesus starts with an experienced squad

For his first squad as head of Portugal, Jorge Jesus is therefore relying on a group combining established leaders and younger players. This new chapter will also allow Jorge Jesus to begin implementing his ideas with a squad he will have to quickly prepare for the next international matches.
