Ahead of the highly anticipated Manchester Derby on Sunday, Manchester United supporter group 'The 1958' has announced plans for a peaceful protest outside Old Trafford against the club's recent ticketing policies.

The ticketing crackdown dispute

Tensions have escalated between the club's administration and the fanbase following a recent campaign aimed at stopping ticket touting. While the initiative was intended to target unauthorized resellers, it resulted in a wave of wrongful bans and suspensions for legitimate season-ticket holders.

According to British newspaper The Sun, the controversial suspensions prompted 'The 1958' to issue an official statement calling for unity among all supporter groups.

The group emphasised that "fans who have given their time, money and loyalty to the club over generations deserve to be treated with respect"

The planned demonstration is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM local time near the stadium, one and a half hours before the 4:30 PM kickoff. The organisers are demanding the immediate reversal of the unfair bans and greater transparency regarding the evidence used to penalise loyal match-going fans.

Club response and lack of appeals

In response to the growing backlash, the Manchester United hierarchy defended the anti-touting campaign, describing it as successful overall.

However, the club issued an apology for any unintended inconvenience caused to genuine supporters caught in the crossfire.

Despite the apology, several fan groups remain deeply frustrated. They have heavily criticised the lack of a clear appeals process, arguing that supporters are being denied a genuine opportunity to defend themselves before severe stadium bans are enforced.

A crucial week for Michael Carrick

The off-pitch unrest arrives during a demanding period for manager Michael Carrick. Before facing Manchester City, United will host Azerbaijani side Sabah on Thursday in the UEFA Champions League.

The fixture marks the Red Devils' first home match in Europe's premier competition in nearly two years, following their bitter group-stage exit in the 2023 /24 season.

Domestically, Carrick's squad is navigating a turbulent start to the Premier League campaign. United currently sit 11th in the table following a mixed run of results that includes a defeat to Hull City, a victory over Ipswich Town and a recent draw against Everton.
