Pro League: William Balikwisha suspended for two matches!
The attacking midfielder for the DR Congo Leopards and Louvain, William Balikwisha, has been suspended for two matches, one of which is conditional, following his sending off in the match against Kortrijk last Saturday. His tackle, deemed too aggressive, led referee Bram Vergoote to review his decision with the help of VAR.
A foul upgraded to a straight red card
Facing Kortrijk in the last league game, OH Louvain was defeated 2-0. At the very end of the match, William Balikwisha was penalized for a tough challenge on Brecht Dejaegere. Initially warned with a simple yellow card, the Congolese player was eventually sent off after video review.
According to local media, the Belgian Union's prosecutor determined that the player "put too much force into his action, with his studs dangerously contacting his opponent's leg." Although no malicious intent was found, the dangerous nature of the action justified a suspension.
A disputable sanction?
It should be noted that the prosecutor has thus proposed a suspension of two games, with one being firm, along with a fine of 2,500 euros. OH Louvain has the option to appeal in an attempt to reduce the sanction.
