Rafael Márquez takes charge of the Mexican national team
The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has officially announced the appointment of Rafael Márquez as the new head coach of Mexico. The iconic former captain of El Tri, known as the 'Kaiser', succeeds Javier Aguirre and begins a new era with the main objective of preparing for the 2030 World Cup.
As outlined in the initial plan, Márquez had been serving as Aguirre's assistant before gradually taking the reins of the national team. His international experience, leadership history with the squad, and his coaching credentials are the main arguments put forward by the FMF to justify this decision.
A two-time champion with Club León as a player, Márquez now faces the formidable task of building a team capable of returning Mexico to the ranks of the world's footballing elite.
The new Mexican head coach will need to rely on a rising generation while preserving the historic identity of El Tri. The coming months will be the first test of his approach and his ability to make his mark.
