Raja Casablanca sacks Ilyes Mzoughi after just two weeks
Ilyes Mzoughi's stint at Raja Casablanca was remarkably short-lived. The Moroccan club has decided to terminate the contract of the Tunisian goalkeeping coach a little over two weeks after his arrival.
Hardly had Ilyes Mzoughi settled in at Raja Casablanca before he was already out the door. The Tunisian goalkeeping coach was dismissed following a controversy sparked by the leak of a private video, an incident that reportedly disrupted the team’s preparations ahead of a crucial fixture.
A fatal controversy
According to several media outlets, the decision came after a sexually explicit private video involving Mzoughi surfaced on social media. The scandal caused significant upheaval within the club, throwing the squad’s preparations into turmoil less than 24 hours before an important match.
Raja’s management reportedly considered the incident a gross misconduct that tarnished the club’s image, thereby justifying his immediate dismissal. Head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who had brought in his compatriot after their collaboration at Kaizer Chiefs, is said to be deeply disappointed by the turn of events.
Mzoughi’s career before Raja
Before joining Raja, Mzoughi spent two seasons at Kaizer Chiefs, where his work was highly praised, particularly for the performances of goalkeeper Brandon Petersen. He also had a brief stint with the Burkina Faso national team before reuniting with Nabi in Morocco.
This abrupt departure now forces Ilyes Mzoughi to seek a new challenge after a brief yet turbulent spell with the Moroccan giants.
