Real Madrid: Federico Valverde very surprised by José Mourinho

Federico Valverde opened up about the start of his new coach at Real Madrid, José Mourinho.

After the friendly win over Ferencvaros (2-1) last Saturday, Federico Valverde admitted he was surprised by his new manager José Mourinho. The Blancos midfielder has discovered a different side to the Portuguese tactician.

"What surprised me the most about him? It's how close he is to the players. He's someone with a strong personality, sometimes tough, but I think that's how he helps us improve. I like the way he treats us, the way he treats me." said the Uruguayan international.

During the 2025-2026 season, Federico Valverde scored 5 goals in La Liga across 33 matches with Real Madrid. Under José Mourinho's guidance, the Uruguayan midfielder could shine once again, just as he did under Carlo Ancelotti.
