Franco Mastantuono is set to reignite his career in Italy. The young Argentine is temporarily leaving Real Madrid to join Fiorentina on loan.

Franco Mastantuono had plenty of options for the coming season. With his path blocked at Real Madrid, the attacking midfielder reportedly received around a dozen offers before choosing Fiorentina. The Argentine joins La Viola on a season-long loan, with no option to buy, aiming to secure more playing time. “Franco Mastantuono joins La Viola,” announced the Italian club.

Real Madrid spent over €60 million

Real Madrid made a major investment to pry the prodigy away from River Plate in 2025. The Argentine club received €45 million, matching his release clause. Including taxes and various transaction fees, the total cost of the transfer reached approximately €63.2 million for Madrid.

Before moving to Europe, Mastantuono made 61 appearances for River Plate's first team, scoring 10 goals and providing 7 assists. Those performances convinced Madrid to place a huge bet on him despite his young age.

A tough first season at Real Madrid

His adaptation to Spanish football proved to be a challenge. In his first season with Real Madrid, the Argentine playmaker featured in 35 matches across all competitions, scoring 3 goals, but struggled to secure a regular spot in the attacking hierarchy.

A loan move had been under consideration for several months as Real Madrid was already weighing up this option to allow Mastantuono to continue his development.

Fiorentina: a chance to earn more minutes

Mastantuono will now experience Serie A football with a Fiorentina side that finished 15th in the league last season. He becomes the second Madrid player to join La Viola this summer after Víctor Valdepeñas.

The absence of a purchase option sends a clear message: Real Madrid still believes in Mastantuono and expects him back after a season in which he will need to rack up playing time and recapture the status he held in Argentina.
