Real Madrid: José Mourinho is losing patience with a summer signing!
José Mourinho is not entirely convinced by his defence, and the performance of a summer signing is already beginning to raise doubts.
Real Madrid’s summer transfer window was particularly eventful, but José Mourinho already felt that his squad was not yet fully balanced. The Portuguese coach had called for an experienced midfielder as well as an additional centre-back. A few weeks later, the first difficulties encountered by Los Merengues are lending weight to his reservations.
According to Sport, Mourinho had specifically identified a lack of depth in central defence. The situation became even more complicated with the injuries to Raul Asencio and Eder Militão, while Dean Huijsen will be suspended for the next match. Ibrahima Konaté, who joined from Liverpool on a free transfer this summer, has not yet fully convinced despite several encouraging appearances.
Konaté already under pressure
The French defender remains an important signing for the Madrid project, but his adaptation is not yet complete. Doubts had already emerged after his first matches with Real Madrid, particularly regarding his positioning and his coordination with the rest of the defensive line.
The player was also hampered by a minor knee injury sustained while on international duty with France. Although his absence is not expected to last long, the incident comes at an unfortunate time for a defence that is still seeking stability in La Liga.
Real Madrid already monitoring Jarell Quansah
The Madrid club therefore does not want to wait before planning for the future. According to Bild, Real are closely monitoring Jarell Quansah, who currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen. The 23-year-old English defender, under contract until 2030, is highly regarded in Madrid thanks to his versatility, power and ability to play out from the back.
Quansah has already played 6 matches this season, totalling 333 minutes and one assist. His market value is estimated at around €45 million. Liverpool nevertheless have a €70 million buy-back option until 15 June 2027, which could complicate the deal.
Real Madrid will also have to contend with competition from Chelsea and Arsenal, who are likewise interested in the player. Leverkusen, who are competing in the Bundesliga, are under no pressure to sell.
Mourinho may finally get his wish
The Quansah situation above all confirms that the Madrid hierarchy is already considering strengthening an area that Mourinho felt was insufficiently stocked from the summer onwards. With injuries, suspensions and a signing still adapting, the Portuguese coach may ultimately get the additional defender he had requested.
