Real Madrid: Mourinho annoyed by Mbappé!
Back in training after his knee injury, Kylian Mbappé finds himself at the centre of a new controversy at Real Madrid.
Kylian Mbappé continues to fuel debate in Spain. Released early by the France national team after his injury against Türkiye (1-0), the Real Madrid striker made several trips during his recovery period, between Paris and the Swiss Alps.
According to Marca, in reports relayed by RMC Sport, José Mourinho reportedly took a dim view of how the recovery was being managed, as well as his striker’s return to Madrid on Monday after training. The bike ride reportedly particularly annoyed the Portuguese, who considers the activity too risky for his players because of the possibility of falls and injuries.
Militão reignites the controversy, Mbappé approves
The episode took on a new dimension when Éder Militão also appeared on a bike, even though the Brazilian defender was aware of the controversy surrounding his teammate. One detail did not go unnoticed: Mbappé liked Militão’s post.
The Frenchman’s trip to Paris had nevertheless been authorised by the club and the medical staff as part of “active rest”. But the accumulation of outings and the media coverage of his activities reportedly eventually irritated Mourinho.
Hyperextension of the left knee and 10 to 12 days out
Mbappé injured his left knee while scoring the only goal in France’s victory over Türkiye in the Nations League. Examinations carried out in Madrid revealed an hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee, with his absence estimated at between 10 and 12 days.
The diagnosis ruled out a more serious injury. The 27-year-old striker resumed individual training at Valdebebas on 5 October, working indoors and then on the pitch, both with and without the ball. His objective is now to be available against Villarreal.
A prolific start to the season with Real
Sportingly, Mbappé has nevertheless enjoyed an excellent start to the season. In La Liga, the Frenchman has 7 goals and 2 assists in 7 matches. He has also scored one goal in one Champions League appearance.
With eight goals in eight matches across the league and the Champions League, the all-time leading scorer for Les Bleus therefore remains indispensable to Real. Mourinho now hopes to have him back on the pitch quickly, away from the off-field controversies surrounding his recovery.
