Real Madrid: Mbappé out for 10 to 12 days after knee injury

Kylian Mbappé will miss the remainder of France’s international camp after suffering a left knee injury against Turkey. Tests carried out in Madrid revealed hyperextension of the posterior capsule, with his absence estimated at between 10 and 12 days.

Real Madrid announced the medical diagnosis this Saturday, September 26. “Following the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappé by the Real Madrid medical services, a diagnosis of hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee was made. His recovery will be closely monitored,” the Spanish club said.

Mbappé injured after scoring

The French striker was injured on Friday during the match won by Les Bleus against Turkey. Mbappé had scored the only goal of the game before feeling pain in his left knee.

After scoring, the France captain tried to continue playing. He eventually asked to be substituted, ending his match a few minutes after putting his side ahead.

His condition led the French staff to release him so that he could return to Madrid and undergo more thorough examinations. He will therefore not take part in the next international fixtures, including the match against Italy scheduled for October 2.

An absence that keeps the door to Rome open

The period of unavailability announced by Real Madrid does not, at this stage, rule out Mbappé featuring in the trip to Rome. Real Madrid are due to face Roma in the Champions League on October 14.

Between the date of his injury and this European fixture, the striker has more than two weeks to recover. His participation will nevertheless depend on how his knee develops and his ability to return to training and then competition without risk.

Real Madrid have not announced a precise date for his return. The club simply stated that his recovery would be subject to close medical monitoring.
