Real Madrid: Mourinho fires shots at Barça as soon as he arrives
Back at Real Madrid, José Mourinho wasted no time reigniting the war with Barcelona. In just one statement, the Special One said it all.
José Mourinho didn’t wait for his first match on the Real Madrid bench to go after the Catalan rivals. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the Special One methodically dismantled Barça’s reputation, using his trademark provocative flair.
“Barcelona is seen as the team that plays incredible football, the team that scores a lot of goals. But that’s a huge contradiction. The team that scored the most goals in the history of Spanish football was my Real Madrid in 2011/12, with 121 goals and 100 points in a single season. What was the defense of that team?” he declared.
“Real Madrid is the best club in the world. Barcelona is one of the best clubs in the world, after Real Madrid,” he added.
The tone is set. Mourinho hasn’t returned to Madrid by chance: he’s back as a conqueror, with the same unapologetic swagger and the same obsession to dominate El Clásico. The war has already begun.
