The stage is set. Just days before the decisive clash between Algeria and Austria, counting for the third round of Group J in the 2026 World Cup, FIFA has officially revealed the referees for the encounter. This is a crucial match for the Fennecs, who are fighting for a place in the round of 16.

Buoyed after their thrilling comeback victory over Jordan (2-1), Algeria will play for their future in this 2026 World Cup in a high-stakes showdown against Austria. This is a fixture loaded with history for the Fennecs, who will be facing their old nemesis from 1982, with a spot in the round of 16 firmly in their sights.

After a heavy defeat against Lionel Messi's Argentina (3-0), Vladimir Petkovic's men responded in style by overturning Jordan. This win keeps them firmly in the race for qualification heading into the final day of Group J.

On this occasion, FIFA has officially appointed the refereeing team for the match. Uzbek official Ilgiz Tantashev will take charge of the game. He will be assisted by his compatriots Andrey Tsapenko and Timur Gaynullin, while Mexican Katia Garcia will serve as the fourth official. Her compatriot Sandra Ramirez will be the reserve assistant referee.

The equation is simple for the Greens: a good result against Austria could open the door to the round of 16 and, who knows, deliver symbolic revenge more than forty years after the trauma of the infamous "Disgrace of Gijón" match.
