After netting a brace for Algeria against Austria (3-3) in the early hours of Sunday in this 2026 World Cup, Riyad Mahrez has further cemented his place in Fennecs history.

Riyad Mahrez now boasts 11 goals in major tournaments—a feat no other Algerian player has achieved before him. The Al-Ahli winger has become the second oldest player in African football history to score twice in a single World Cup match, at 35 years and 4 months.

Mahrez trails the legendary Roger Milla, whose two braces for Cameroon during the 1990 edition at age 38 remain etched in football history.
