Arnautović strikes first, Belghali hits back
Austria drew first blood through Marko Arnautović in the 28th minute, expertly set up by David Alaba and capitalizing on a risky outing from keeper Oussama Benbot, who started in place of Luca Zidane. The Fennecs, however, responded with grit. After Chaïbi rattled the post in the 39th minute—coming agonizingly close to equalizing—it was Rafik Belghali who finally leveled the score just before the break (45'), a goal confirmed by VAR. It's also worth noting Arnautović picked up an early yellow card for a dangerous challenge on Mandi as early as the 11th minute.
With 57% possession and seven shots attempted, Algeria are virtually qualified as the best third-placed team and would face Switzerland in the next round. Still, everything remains to play for in this decisive second half.
