Relieved after his team’s dramatic comeback win over Jordan (2-1), Vladimir Petkovic praised his players’ response and the mental strength they showed in the second half. However, the Algerian coach refused to get carried away ahead of the decisive clash against Austria.

Algeria’s thrilling victory over Jordan (2-1) brought a smile back to Vladimir Petkovic’s face. At the press conference, the Greens’ coach insisted on staying grounded, choosing instead to highlight his squad’s character and already looking ahead to the decisive showdown against Austria.

Petkovic hails his players’ reaction

Trailing at halftime, Algeria managed to turn things around thanks to a much-improved second half.

“What pleased me most today was how the players responded after conceding that goal. The team didn’t lose its composure and kept believing in its ability to get back into the match,” said the Swiss tactician.

The former Switzerland coach nonetheless acknowledged the difficulties faced before the break.

“We were punished for a few mistakes in the first half. That’s part of football, and you have to know how to handle these situations,” he explained,

before adding, “the statistics were on our side in several areas. We controlled the match, created plenty of chances, and I believe this victory is deserved.”

Eyes already on Austria

Petkovic also made sure to pay tribute to Jordan.

“The opposition played a good match and caused us several problems at times,” he acknowledged.

Nevertheless, the Algerian coach was keen to keep any euphoria in check.

“We haven’t achieved anything yet. Qualification is not guaranteed. There’s still a decisive match against Austria that will determine our fate in this competition,” he warned.

The message is clear: the Fennecs have renewed hope, but their destiny will be decided next Saturday.
