Trailing at halftime and temporarily on the brink of elimination, Algeria turned the tables on Jordan in the second half thanks to inspired substitutions by Vladimir Petkovic. This precious victory keeps the Fennecs alive in the 2026 World Cup.

Algeria reignited its World Cup 2026 campaign by coming from behind to defeat Jordan (2-1) on matchday two in Group J. After conceding just before the break to a Nizar Al-Rashdan goal, the Fennecs showed a completely different face after the interval to secure their first win of the tournament.

Indeed, Vladimir Petkovic found the answer with some game-changing coaching. The introductions of Nabil Bentaleb and Nadhir Benbouali transformed Algeria’s attacking dynamic. Benbouali first leveled the score in the 69th minute following a corner delivered by Riyad Mahrez, before Amine Gouiri put the Greens ahead in the 82nd.

But beyond the scoreline, Algeria’s dominance in the second half was absolute. With 75% possession and 17 shots, the Fennecs eventually broke down a brave Jordanian side and remain very much alive in the race for the round of 16.
