With their backs against the wall before kickoff, Algeria once again finds itself in trouble. Trailing Jordan at halftime after a costly error in the build-up, the Fennecs are provisionally on the verge of elimination from the 2026 World Cup.

Algeria is in dire straits at halftime against Jordan. Down 1-0, the Fennecs were punished for a glaring mistake by Ramiz Zerrouki, whose failed switch of play allowed the Jordanians to launch a lightning-fast counter, finished off with a superb strike from outside the box.

Yet Vladimir Petkovic’s men had their chances to open the scoring. Indeed, Riyad Mahrez found himself one-on-one with the Jordanian goalkeeper twice, but failed to break the deadlock.

Already beaten by Argentina on the opening day, Algeria is, for now, confirming its major struggles at this 2026 World Cup. Even more concerning, the Greens seem to be making life harder for themselves despite a squad that looked capable of a completely different run.
