World Cup 2026 / Jordan 1-2 Algeria: Islam Slimani blasts Vladimir Petkovic
While the win over Jordan put Algeria back in contention for the round of 16, not everyone was convinced. Speaking as a pundit for beIN Sports, Islam Slimani delivered a harsh assessment of the Fennecs’ performance and did not spare Vladimir Petkovic from criticism.
Despite Algeria’s thrilling comeback victory against Jordan (2-1), Islam Slimani did not hide his concerns regarding the level of play shown by the Fennecs. As a beIN Sports analyst during this 2026 World Cup, the national team’s all-time top scorer was especially critical of Vladimir Petkovic.

Indeed, the former Algerian striker believes the team still struggles to establish a true identity.
“This coach has been with us for two years, but we still don’t see any clear playing identity for the national team,” he lamented.
However, Slimani went even further in his analysis, highlighting the Bosnian coach’s choices.
“He often makes mistakes with his lineups, and we’re forced to fix things in the second half. A match starts from the first minute, not from the second half,” he declared, despite the three valuable points secured by the Greens.
