By coming from behind to defeat Jordan (2-1), Algeria not only kept its hopes alive for qualification to the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, but also broke several records and ended some long-standing statistical streaks.

Algeria’s thrilling comeback victory over Jordan (2-1) late Monday night did more than just put the Fennecs back in the race for a spot in the World Cup 2026 round of 16. It also allowed the national team to write a new chapter in its World Cup history.

Indeed, this is the first time Algeria has ever won a World Cup match after trailing on the scoreboard. Another remarkable statistic: Ahmed Nadhir Benbouali became only the second Algerian player to score at a World Cup after coming off the bench, twelve years after Abdelmoumene Djabou did so against Germany in 2014.

However, it's not all perfect for the Greens. The goal conceded against Jordan is a reminder of the team's defensive struggles, having managed just one clean sheet in fifteen World Cup matches. That lone shutout dates back to the goalless draw against England at the 2010 World Cup.
