Real Madrid reveals Federico Valverde injury! (Official)

Real Madrid have confirmed a serious injury to Federico Valverde, who suffered an injury to his left ankle during the derby defeat to Atlético.

Real Madrid have just confirmed bad news concerning their captain, Federico Valverde. Two days after the 2-1 derby defeat to Atlético de Madrid, the Spanish giants published a new medical statement announcing a severe left-ankle sprain.

Injured in the 44th minute after a collision with Kang-in Lee, the Uruguayan nevertheless continued the match until the final whistle. An initial assessment indicated significant trauma before further examinations clarified the exact nature of the injury.

Valverde suffers a grade 3 sprain

In their official statement published on Tuesday, Real Madrid said:

" Following the examinations carried out today on our player Fede Valverde by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a grade 3 sprain to his left ankle. His progress will continue to be monitored. "

The club have not disclosed any period of absence at this stage. However, the diagnosis is considerably more precise than the one published immediately after the derby. Initial reports had suggested that he could be out for two to three weeks, before these new medical examinations.

Another blow after the derby

The injury comes at a bad time for the Madrid side. Beaten by Atlético, Real have lost ground in the title race in La Liga. After seven matchdays, José Mourinho’s men sit third with 15 points.

FC Barcelona, who made a perfect start with seven wins from seven matches, already have 21 points. Real are therefore six points behind their great rivals as the international break begins.

Valverde’s situation will now be closely monitored, given how central his role is to the balance of the Madrid team. The captain recently reached 250 La Liga appearances in the white shirt.
