Real Madrid have been hit by more bad news after their defeat in the derby against Atlético de Madrid (2-1). Federico Valverde was injured during the match played on Sunday.

The Uruguayan midfielder suffered an injury to his left ankle after a heavy collision with South Korean player Kang-in Lee.

Despite the pain, Valverde continued playing until the final whistle, with José Mourinho choosing not to substitute him.

Real Madrid then announced on their official website that initial medical examinations had confirmed an injury to their captain’s left ankle.

However, the Spanish giants have not yet announced how long he will be sidelined. Further examinations are scheduled to determine the exact severity of his injury and the time needed for his recovery.

Valverde out for between two and three weeks?

According to The Athletic, Federico Valverde could be sidelined for between two and three weeks.

The absence comes at a bad time for Real Madrid, who suffered their second defeat in La Liga this season.

Following this win, Atlético de Madrid now have 16 points and occupy second place in the standings, while Real Madrid remain on 15 points and drop to fourth.
