Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal’s future at Stade Rennais remains uncertain. While the Breton club wants to extend the contract of its young Moroccan defender, talks are reportedly not progressing as hoped, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri. Rennes have reportedly set their asking price at a minimum of €40 million after rejecting several offers from Fulham during the last summer transfer window.

An extension far from guaranteed

Aged 20, Aït Boudlal is considered one of the promising young defenders in Rennes’ squad. Under contract with the club until June 2028, he has been the subject of discussions over a contract extension. On October 12, Foot Mercato nevertheless reported that an agreement had been reached between the two parties.

That report has now been contradicted by Sacha Tavolieri, who says that negotiations remain complicated and that the player’s future in Brittany is uncertain. This situation comes after a difficult start to the season for the defender, who has played four matches for a total of 280 minutes on the pitch.

Fulham could return to the negotiating table

During the summer transfer window, Fulham reportedly made two offers to sign the Moroccan international. The highest proposal reportedly reached €35 million, but Rennes are said to have rejected it, valuing their player at a minimum of €40 million.

This demand has reportedly not changed. The London club could therefore revisit the matter, although no new offer has been confirmed. For Rennes, the stakes are twofold: retain a defender considered a player for the future or secure a substantial fee if contract negotiations do not lead to an agreement.

Our analysis

The Aït Boudlal situation illustrates the difficulty Rennes face in balancing their desire to build around young talents with interest from foreign clubs possessing significant financial resources. An extension would allow the Breton club to safeguard its investment and strengthen its position in the event of future offers. Conversely, if talks continue to stagnate, the pressure could increase as the winter transfer window approaches. No contract extension or transfer has been confirmed at this stage.
