Russia: Théo Bongonda leaves Spartak Moscow and closes a chapter in his career

Théo Bongonda's Russian adventure has come to an end. The Congolese international announced his departure from Spartak Moscow via an Instagram story, as his contract was set to expire this summer.

Arriving in Moscow in 2023 from Cádiz CF, the Congolese winger experienced three mixed seasons with the Russian club. Despite a challenging final campaign, marked by limited playing time, Bongonda leaves Spartak with respectable stats: 75 appearances, 16 goals, and 6 assists across all competitions.

This season, the 30-year-old featured in only a handful of matches and hasn't been seen on the pitch since mid-March. His departure also means he'll miss the final league game and the Russian Cup final scheduled for May 25.

A new chapter on the horizon

Beyond the numbers, Théo Bongonda leaves behind the image of a consummate professional, even during tough times. Always respectful to his club and teammates, the Congolese forward kept working diligently behind the scenes despite being out of the coach’s plans for an extended period.

Now a free agent, the former Celta de Vigo player could quickly find a new challenge in another league.
