Saudi Arabia: Hervé Renard dismissed a month and a half before the World Cup
The split is now official. The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has reached an amicable agreement with Hervé Renard to terminate his contract, with compensation estimated at €5 million. A decision made just weeks before the World Cup, plunging the team into uncertainty.
Hervé Renard's Saudi adventure comes to an end. For several weeks, tensions had been brewing between the French coach and the Saudi Federation. Internal disagreements, differing sporting visions... the atmosphere had clearly deteriorated, making continued collaboration untenable.
Despite initial denials, local sources are now unanimous: Hervé Renard is no longer the head coach of Saudi Arabia.
Succession already underway
Faced with the urgency of the situation, the Federation has drawn up a shortlist of candidates to take over before the World Cup. Among the names mentioned is Georgios Donis, current coach of Al-Khaleej, whose profile is being seriously considered.
Other options are also reportedly under review, proof that the search for a successor is already well advanced internally.
