Sébastien Haller heads to Japan

Sébastien Haller is now officially a player for Sanfrecce Hiroshima. The Ivorian international was presented to the media on Friday during a press conference held at the EDION Peace Wing Hiroshima, marking the beginning of his J.League adventure.

After several stints across Europe, including the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations champion has chosen to embrace a new challenge in Japan. He says the decision came quickly, as he was immediately drawn to the club’s vision.

"The project presented by Sanfrecce Hiroshima immediately won me over. I felt the club genuinely wanted a player with my profile. Beyond the sporting aspect, I was also touched by the respect and humility shown by the club’s management during our discussions."

The former Ajax Amsterdam striker also explained that this move was a carefully considered family decision, fully aware of the cultural change that a move to Japan would bring.

"Moving to Japan is a major decision, with a very different culture. I discussed it at length with my family, and together we decided to take on this challenge. It’s a new adventure that really excites me."

In a relaxed atmosphere, Haller wrapped up with a touch of humor, revealing that his wife’s favorite color, purple, also happens to be the color of Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

At 32, the Ivorian striker now hopes to bring his experience to the Japanese club and recapture his best form in this exciting new chapter of his career.
