Senegal: Gana Gueye's tribute to Pape Thiaw

Hours after the official announcement of Pape Thiaw's dismissal as head coach of the Lions of Teranga, Idrissa Gana Gueye broke his silence.

On his Instagram account, the Everton midfielder paid a heartfelt tribute to his now former manager. “La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (There is no strength nor power except through God, editor’s note). Thank you, Pape Thiaw, from the bottom of my heart,” wrote the Senegalese veteran.

This message comes amid a turbulent period for Senegalese football. After a 2026 World Cup campaign that ended with a round of 16 exit against Belgium and several backstage controversies, the Senegalese Football Federation has decided to begin proceedings to relieve Pape Thiaw and his entire technical staff of their duties.
