Senegal: Pape Thiaw announces the regularization of his contract with the Lions of Teranga
Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has put an end to speculation surrounding his contractual situation with the Senegalese Football Federation. Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Norway, he confirmed that everything has now been settled.
Pape Thiaw confirmed that the contract situation is now resolved, making sure to clarify the real nature of the holdup. According to him, the discussions were never about financial demands.
"Yes, the contract is settled. It’s true that it took a long time. The only thing I can say is that it was never about money, but rather a matter of principle and respect," he stated.
Addressing questions about the slow pace of negotiations, the coach also emphasized his commitment to maintaining the squad’s focus. He reminded everyone that certain contractual matters must remain internal and should not be made public.
"When I wear the Senegal badge, patriotism comes first. Once I’m with the national team, I put contractual issues aside," he added, calling for attention to be shifted back to the upcoming sporting challenges.
This clarification comes as rumors swirled about tensions between the technical staff and the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF). The coach was keen to put out the fire, reframing the debate as a simple difference of principle that has now been resolved.
With this clarification, Senegal’s national team heads into their next match in a much calmer institutional climate.
