Senegal: Pape Thiaw demands a fortune from the federation

In recent hours, Pape Thiaw has issued a formal notice to the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF).

It's now open warfare between former Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw and the football federation. In a letter dated August 13, the Senegalese tactician, through his lawyer, sent a formal demand to his former employer.

The FSF has been ordered to pay just over 423.8 million CFA francs—around 647,000 euros—in outstanding wages to the 45-year-old coach, who was officially dismissed on July 11 after a disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign that ended in the Round of 32. The sum covers his salary, bonuses, and reimbursements from March to August 2026. Thiaw, who had his contract extended during the World Cup just hours before the group stage match against Norway (a 3-2 defeat on June 23), was earning 30 million CFA francs (45,734.7 euros) "with retroactive effect."

This dramatic clash marks the end of any hope for an amicable settlement and leaves the FSF with its back against the wall. The Senegalese governing body is now forced to comply or face legal action, including potential appeals to FIFA or even the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

For now, Senegal has yet to appoint a replacement for Pape Thiaw following his dismissal. Patrick Vieira is currently the leading candidate to take charge of the Lions of Teranga.
