Appointed head coach of the Lions of Teranga, Patrick Vieira assesses his first two matches in charge of Senegal in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“We are on the right track”

Asked about his first results at a press conference, Patrick Vieira described the situation as generally satisfactory.

There is a new playing project that is being put in place. Everything has not been perfect. But we have received a lot of indications regarding the areas for improvement. Winning today gives us confidence. I think we are on the right track.

Mixed beginnings

The former France international began with a frustrating draw 1-1 against Mozambique before securing his first victory, 1-0 against Ethiopia thanks to a goal from Ibrahim Mbaye. It was a start in which he also handed debuts to several players, including Malang Sarr and Issa Soumare against Ethiopia.

The next fixture on the schedule is a friendly on October 4 at the Orange Vélodrome in Marseille against the Coelacanths of Comoros.
