Senegal: Patrick Vieira gives a satisfactory assessment of his first four matches
At the end of the September–October international window, Patrick Vieira gave a satisfactory assessment of his first three matches in charge of the Lions of Teranga, capped by a 1-0 victory over Comoros at the Vélodrome on Sunday in a friendly.
Vieira sees progress
Speaking at a press conference after the 1-0 win over Comoros, the new head coach highlighted the improvements in the team's play. The overall assessment is very positive.
In this match against Comoros, I feel that we are making progress with the playing philosophy we want to put in place. We were well disciplined in terms of the structure we wanted to establish.
Patrick Vieira nevertheless believes there is still a great deal of progress to be made in certain aspects of the Lions of Teranga's play.
There is still work to do. We can be more aggressive in the final third. We can play more forward to penetrate that dangerous area more effectively. But in terms of the playing philosophy I want to put in place, I saw clear progress compared with the structure I want to see. »
An encouraging international window
The record from this first camp under Vieira is two wins and a draw. Held to a 1-1 draw by Mozambique in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Kalidou Koulibaly and his teammates then recorded two victories by the same scoreline, 1-0 against Ethiopia and Comoros.
Beyond the narrow results, the camp allowed the former 1998 French world champion to hand several young talents their first caps and test different tactical systems.
