Senegal: Sadio Mané reportedly decides to retire from international football

A monumental chapter in Senegalese football history may be coming to a close. According to Le Quotidien, Sadio Mané has reportedly announced his retirement from international football just days after the Teranga Lions were knocked out in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup by Belgium. At 34, the Al-Nassr striker would be ending more than twelve years in Senegal's colors.

Since joining the national team in 2012, Sadio Mané would leave an indelible mark on the Lions' legacy. As the national team's all-time top scorer with 52 goals and its leading assist provider, he also boasts over 120 caps. The former captain had already hinted, following Senegal’s second continental triumph at AFCON 2025, that the 2026 World Cup would likely be his final international tournament.

Still according to Le Quotidien, Mané reportedly assured he wants to continue serving Senegalese football in another role, despite the end of his playing career with the Teranga Lions.
