Slovan Bratislava: Yaya Touré seeking his first historic points in the Champions League
After two defeats in the Champions League, Yaya Touré and Slovan Bratislava are seeking their first points. On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the Slovak champions will face AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on the third matchday of the league phase. The Ivorian coach wants to use this opportunity to revive his team, despite the difficulty of the task.
Yaya Touré is discovering the demands of the Champions League in his first season as a head coach. He became the first African coach to lead a team in the main phase of the competition, excluding the qualifying rounds. This historic first contrasts with his team’s difficulties, as they remain without a point after two matchdays.
Nine goals conceded in two matches
Slovan Bratislava suffered a heavy defeat against Paris Saint-Germain (1-6) on September 9, before losing at home to Stuttgart (0-3) on October 14. In two matches, the Slovak club has scored just one goal and conceded nine. With zero points and a goal difference of -8, it sits bottom of the table.
These results have made the start of Yaya Touré’s campaign more difficult. Against PSG, his team conceded six goals. Against Stuttgart, it failed to turn the tide. The trip to Rome therefore represents another test for a side that must improve its results against top-level opponents.

Yaya Touré wants to take his chance in Rome
On the eve of the match, the former FC Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder acknowledged the quality of his opponent. “Roma are a strong team, with excellent players and a very good coach. We must give our all,” he said at a press conference.
Nevertheless, the Ivorian coach refuses to consider his team beaten in advance. He wants to see his players deliver a performance worthy of the occasion. Roma also have just one point after two matchdays, which gives them an additional stake in this encounter.
For Slovan Bratislava, the objective is finally to claim its first points. A positive result would allow Yaya Touré to revive his team’s European campaign after two difficult outings. However, the coach will have to cope without his captain, Andraž Šporar, who is absent from the trip because of illness.
Kick-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. After making African football history on the Champions League touchline, Yaya Touré must now help Slovan Bratislava turn its ambitions into reality on the pitch.
