Snubbing Al Ahly and stunning Saudi giants: Miguel Cardoso's defiant African message

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has publicly refused to address speculation linking him with the managerial position at Al Ahly SC, reaffirming his commitment to his current employers in South Africa.

Clarifying managerial speculation

Speaking in an interview with Egyptian broadcaster Modern Mti, Cardoso moved swiftly to shut down rumours suggesting he could replace Hussein Ammouta in Cairo.

The Portuguese tactician emphasized his professional obligations, stating that it was impossible to discuss any potential negotiations with the Egyptian champions out of respect for his active contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.

African pride in the Intercontinental Cup

Beyond his club future, Cardoso reflected on Sundowns' recent 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli in the second round of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

He highlighted the result as a significant achievement for African football, particularly when competing against Gulf clubs backed by massive financial resources and star-studded squads.

Cardoso also praised fellow continental representatives Pyramids FC who recently defeated the AFC Champions League Elite titleholders for the second consecutive season.

He noted that such international fixtures provide a vital platform to showcase the true technical capabilities of African teams.
