South Africa: Hugo Broos keeps everyone guessing about his future as Bafana Bafana head coach

While many expected him to step down after the 2026 World Cup, Hugo Broos has yet to make any final decision regarding his future with the South African national team. The Belgian tactician has made it clear he wants to take his time to reflect before making an announcement.

Hugo Broos is keeping fans in suspense over his future at the helm of Bafana Bafana.

"I'll see if we make a decision in the coming days. It was a great World Cup and it won't be an easy decision. But to say now that I'm stopping or that I'm continuing, I can't do that," said the Bafana Bafana head coach.

Questioned after South Africa's last match of the tournament, Broos insisted he didn't want to make any rash decisions in the heat of the moment.

"It's not a good thing to make a decision in the heat of the action. So I won't make any definitive decision right now. Yes, I said I would leave after the World Cup, but I'll talk with the South African Football Association (SAFA) and see what options are on the table for the future," he explained.

The 74-year-old coach is thus leaving the door open for a possible extension of his adventure with Bafana Bafana, a side he has managed since 2021 and led to historic results in recent years.

His future is expected to be clarified after discussions with the South African Football Association in the coming days.
