South Africa: Jayden Adams laid to rest in private family ceremony in Stellenbosch

The South African international midfielder Jayden Adams was laid to rest this Saturday in Stellenbosch, his hometown, during a private ceremony attended only by family. Before the burial, a tribute held at the Coetzenburg Centre brought together many relatives, friends, players, football officials, and supporters who came to pay their last respects to the former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns player.

In a statement, the Adams family explained that, to preserve the dignity of this final farewell and due to the large number of people expected, only family members were allowed to view the body and attend the burial at the cemetery.

The sudden passing of Jayden Adams, which occurred on July 11 at the age of 25, deeply shook South African and international football. His death came just two weeks after his return from the 2026 World Cup, where he played a key role in Bafana Bafana's historic run as they qualified for the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time in their history.

The exact circumstances of his death remain under investigation. While some reports have mentioned suicide, South African police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk stated that, at this stage of the investigation, no criminal act has been identified.
