South Africa: SAFA denies any contract extension for Hugo Broos

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has officially denied reports claiming a one-year contract extension for the head coach of the Bafana Bafana, Hugo Broos. In a statement released this Wednesday, the association assured that no decision has yet been made regarding the future of the Belgian tactician.

The SAFA clarified that Hugo Broos remains bound by his current contract, which expires at the end of July 2026. Contrary to rumors circulated by several media outlets, no new contract has been signed or approved by the National Executive Committee.

The South African governing body emphasized that internal procedures related to the technical staff of the national team are still ongoing, and that no official announcement will be made until these processes are completed.

The federation urges caution

In its statement, the SAFA expressed regret over the spread of what it described as "false, unfounded and misleading" information. The federation believes these publications fuel unnecessary speculation, mislead the public and disrupt its decision-making process.

The federation also called on the media to respect the principles of responsible journalism by seeking its side of the story before publishing. It assured that any official communication regarding the future of the Bafana Bafana head coach will only be made once its governance procedures are finalized.
