Spain: Ferran Torres injured and ruled out for the rest of the international break
Ferran Torres will not see out the international break with Spain. The PSG player has been forced to return to Paris to receive treatment for his ankle.
Paris Saint-Germain are now monitoring Ferran Torres’s physical condition very closely. Called up by Spain for this international window, the 26-year-old striker was released by La Roja after experiencing persistent pain in his left ankle. He will therefore miss the next two matches against the Czech Republic and then Croatia.
The Spanish Football Federation explained that the player had initially been able to continue training and playing despite the discomfort. But with the symptoms persisting, the medical staffs of the national team and PSG decided not to take any risks. Luis de la Fuente has therefore called up Carlos Espí, a Spain U21 international, to complete the squad.
An alert at the worst possible time for Paris
This injury comes as Ferran Torres had made an excellent start to the season in his new colours. Signed this summer, the former FC Barcelona player quickly established himself in the Parisian attack thanks to his efficiency in front of goal.
Since the start of the campaign, he has already scored 7 goals in 6 matches in all competitions. That output makes him one of the key players in Paris Saint-Germain’s strong start to the season and explains the concern surrounding his physical condition.
PSG hope to have him back quickly
The capital club are due to resume their Ligue 1 campaign on October 10 against Le Mans. The Parisian staff therefore hope that this scare proves harmless and that Ferran Torres will be available as soon as play resumes.
His return to Paris will allow the club’s medical department to carry out further examinations and determine whether he can quickly return to group training. In the meantime, Spain will continue its international break without one of its most in-form strikers.
