Spain: Thomas Partey set for Villarreal exit
Thomas Partey's stint at Villarreal is expected to come to an end when his contract expires on June 30. According to several consistent reports, the Spanish club has no plans to trigger the option to extend the Ghanaian midfielder's deal for an additional season.
Having joined as a free agent in the summer of 2025 after leaving Arsenal FC, the 33-year-old signed a one-year contract with an option for renewal. Despite making 32 appearances across all competitions this season—including five in the Champions League—the Yellow Submarine's management has decided not to continue with Partey.
This decision comes as Partey is currently representing the Ghana national football team at the 2026 World Cup. He will therefore be free to sign with any club of his choosing during the summer transfer window. On the sporting front, Villarreal is coming off an outstanding campaign, finishing third in La Liga—their best result in thirteen years.
Meanwhile, the Ghana international is still facing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom. He denies all allegations against him, and his trial is scheduled for 2027. With his contract winding down, Thomas Partey will now need to find a new destination to continue his career at the highest level.
