A household request

Speaking in an interview with the Turkish media outlet Gzt on Sunday evening, the government official addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding the Egyptian forward. Göktaş revealed that her interest in the potential transfer was sparked by her own family, as her son actively participated in the club's famous social media recruitment tactics.

"My son is also among those who personally messaged 'Come to Besiktas, Mohamed Salah'.. We desire it. I hope this process is completed quickly and we become champions" the minister stated.

A Landmark Summer for Salah

The public appeal from the Turkish official arrives at a critical juncture in the 34 year old's career. Salah is currently a free agent after officially leaving English side Liverpool at the end of last season bringing an end to a highly successful 9 year tenure at Anfield.

As one of the most high profile players on the open market, the former Egypt national team captain has naturally attracted interest from multiple clubs globally. While no formal agreement has been announced by the Istanbul based club, the intense fan mobilisation, now reaching the highest levels of the Turkish government, highlights the massive cultural impact a potential move would generate.

What happens next?

With the summer transfer window still open, Salah and his representatives will continue to carefully evaluate the offers on the table. Besiktas supporters will be waiting to see if their collective online campaign, backed by prominent public figures, will be enough to convince the prolific forward to choose the Turkish Super Lig for his next chapter.
