Trabzonspor looks to outmaneuver Beşiktaş in Mohamed Salah race

Now a free agent after leaving Liverpool, Mohamed Salah could be on the verge of joining Trabzonspor, with negotiations between the Turkish side and his representatives said to be at an advanced stage.

There’s a fresh twist in the Mohamed Salah saga. For months, the Egyptian international had been tipped for a move to Beşiktaş, but it now appears his next destination could be Trabzonspor. According to an exclusive report from Foot Mercato, talks between last season’s Turkish Süper Lig third-place finishers and Salah’s entourage have accelerated significantly.

Trabzonspor is reportedly on the verge of a total agreement with the 34-year-old forward. This breakthrough has led Beşiktaş to halt their own pursuit for now. The Istanbul club had already put talks with Mohamed Salah on hold after three meetings.

Trabzonspor looks to overtake Beşiktaş

Before this dramatic shift, Salah was believed to have reached a verbal agreement with Beşiktaş for a one-year deal, with an optional second year. The proposed contract would have guaranteed him €10 million net per season, plus up to €2 million in bonuses.

No final signature was ever put to paper, however. Trabzonspor is now seeking to capitalize on the impasse between Salah and Beşiktaş to secure the former Liverpool star on a free transfer. His experience, name recognition, and clinical finishing would offer the club a major boost both on and off the pitch.

A salary well below what he earned at Liverpool

At Liverpool, Salah earned around £400,000 per week, or roughly £20.8 million gross annually, excluding bonuses. With additional incentives, his total weekly income could reach £500,000. A €10 million net contract in Turkey would be a major financial commitment for Trabzonspor, but it would still represent a significant pay cut for Salah compared to his Reds days.

His Liverpool adventure ended after nine seasons and 442 appearances. The Egyptian scored 257 goals and provided 123 assists for the club, winning nine trophies including two league titles and a Champions League crown, as well as the Community Shield.

Salah also finished as Premier League top scorer four times. He was twice named Player of the Season by the league, and three times PFA Player of the Year.
