"The door remains open": Jesus sends Cristiano Ronaldo a new message!
Portugal manager Jorge Jesus has left the door open for his captain Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the national team after the striker’s surprise departure from the camp.
The Portuguese coach specified that the decision belonged to Al-Nassr forward Ronaldo if he wishes to continue his international career.
Ronaldo left Portugal’s camp last week after remaining on the bench during the victory over Norway, before learning that he would not start the match against Denmark.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner then chose not to reveal the reasons for his departure, merely indicating that he would explain them at the appropriate time
Jesus: “C. Ronaldo is the only one who can decide his future with Portugal”!
Speaking to journalists after Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway in the Nations League, Jorge Jesus said: “If he wants to, he will return to the national team. We can talk about it before the next camp, but it is Cris who has to decide.”
The Portuguese coach added: “It is up to him to decide how he wants to end his career with the national team. During my first camp, I told him: I need you, I need you to be close to me, whether you play or not, I need you. Today, I am telling him the same thing.”
For his part, Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença confirmed that Ronaldo remained part of the “Seleção” plans, while describing the incident as a misunderstanding that could be resolved internally.
Speaking to Portuguese television, Proença said: “He is in the national team because of his sporting merit, and that is beyond dispute. We must salute Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Portugal will then host Denmark on November 14 before travelling to Wales to face the Welsh national team three days later.
