Tottenham: Micky van de Ven extends contract until 2031

Tottenham Hotspur officially announced on Monday the contract extension of Micky van de Ven. The Dutch centre-back has signed a new five-year deal, tying him to the Spurs until 2031. This move reaffirms his status as a key figure in Roberto De Zerbi’s project.

Arriving in August 2023 from Wolfsburg, Van de Ven quickly established himself at the heart of the London club’s defence. Over three seasons, he has featured in 96 matches across all competitions for Tottenham, scoring 10 goals.

Last season, the Dutchman was particularly influential, making 45 appearances, including 34 in the Premier League. He also played a pivotal role in the club’s European campaign. In the 2025 Europa League final against Manchester United, he made headlines with a spectacular overhead defensive clearance on the goal line to deny Rasmus Højlund an equaliser. He also wore the captain’s armband in the last six matches of the season under De Zerbi’s guidance.

"Micky is one of the best centre-backs in Europe and an important player for us," said the Italian coach, who played a decisive role in his decision to renew his contract.

A meteoric rise that began in the Netherlands

Born in Wormer, Van de Ven started his footballing education at WSV '30 Wormer before joining the FC Volendam youth academy in 2013. There, he made his professional debut and played 48 matches with the first team.

In August 2021, he signed for Wolfsburg. After making 41 appearances in Germany, he moved to Tottenham two years later, quickly reaching new heights in his career.

His profile is defined by his exceptional pace, strength in duels, and ability to defend deep. These qualities have made him one of Tottenham’s most vital defenders.

A confirmed Dutch international

Van de Ven has also progressed with the Netherlands national team. He earned his first cap in October 2023 against France and was part of the Dutch squad for Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup.

Now capped 24 times, the 25-year-old defender is determined to continue his development at Tottenham. His contract extension sends a strong signal from the club, which is counting on him for many more seasons to come.
