Transfer: Femi Azeez joins Brighton

Brighton officially announced the signing of Femi Azeez from Millwall on Wednesday, September 2. The 25-year-old Nigerian winger has signed a four-year contract with the Seagulls, with the transfer fee undisclosed.

Both clubs had submitted the necessary documents before the initial transfer deadline, which was set for 11 p.m. on Tuesday. The deal was ultimately completed before the new 1 a.m. deadline.

Brighton sporting director Mike Cave welcomed the arrival. “We’re delighted to welcome Femi to the squad. He arrives after an excellent season with Millwall, where he played a key role in their run to the playoffs,” he said.

The Brighton official also highlighted the Nigerian’s attacking qualities: “He was one of the most promising attackers in the Championship, and we’re delighted to have finally completed his transfer. We’re looking forward to working with him.”

With Millwall, Azeez made 77 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists. His 2025/26 season earned him a place in both the PFA and EFL Championship Teams of the Season.

From amateur football to the professional game

Femi Azeez’s journey has been far from straightforward. After coming through Watford’s youth setup, he continued his development with Northwood before playing for Wealdstone and Hanwell Town.

In 2019, he joined Reading. Five years later, he moved to Millwall, where he gradually established himself in the Championship.

His performances eventually earned him a call-up to the Nigerian national team.

A flying start to his international career

Azeez made his Nigeria debut in June 2026. He did not take long to make an impact, scoring both goals for the Super Eagles in a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe.

Four days later, he made his mark again by providing an assist in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Jamaica.

Having climbed the ranks of English football, Femi Azeez now continues his development with a new challenge at Brighton & Hove Albion. His arrival on a four-year deal gives him the opportunity to prove, at an even higher level, the potential he demonstrated with Millwall and Nigeria.
