Transfer market: FC Barcelona tracking Castello Lukeba

FC Barcelona has set its sights on Castello Lukeba as they look to bolster their defense during this transfer window. According to The Athletic, the 23-year-old Congolese defender from RB Leipzig is highly rated by Hansi Flick, but a move to Catalonia would largely depend on Alejandro Balde's departure.

The French international's profile fits the German coach's requirements. Able to play both as a central defender and as a left-back, Lukeba would provide Flick with a versatile option to strengthen his defensive line.

The RB Leipzig player is therefore being closely monitored by the Catalan club. His technical qualities and ability to cover multiple positions are key reasons for Flick's interest, who is particularly fond of the defender.

An operation valued at 50 million euros

Financially, however, the deal remains complicated for Barça. Lukeba's value is estimated at around 50 million euros, while some reports mention a release clause set at 80 million euros.

Currently, FC Barcelona reportedly does not have the financial leeway to pull off such a move without a significant sale. According to reports, Alejandro Balde's departure would be necessary to allow the Catalan club to take concrete action. Jules Koundé could also be another potential departure, depending on the scenarios discussed.

A defender already impressing at Leipzig

At just 23, Lukeba already has solid experience at the highest level. With Leipzig, he has gradually established himself as a key component of the German defense.

During the season in question, the defender played 26 matches, averaging 4.9 recoveries, 1.2 interceptions, and 1.2 tackles per game, along with one goal scored.

Trained at Olympique Lyonnais before joining Leipzig and earning his place as a French international, Lukeba also has a unique background that could further appeal to Barça: his Congolese heritage. Born in France to Congolese parents, he holds both French and Congolese cultural ties, even though he now represents France on the international stage.

Lukeba is on Flick's radar, but a major sale will likely be needed before Barcelona can launch a concrete move for the Leipzig defender.
