Transfer market: Issiaka Kamaté set to leave Inter for Espanyol

A young French talent trained at Inter

Born in France with Ivorian roots, Issiaka Kamaté joined Inter Milan at just 16 years old. He continued his development in the youth ranks of the Lombard club, steadily climbing through the different age groups.

His time with the youth teams saw him stand out thanks to his work rate, physical strength, and ability to operate both in central midfield and out wide. Last season, he featured for Inter's Under-23 squad.

His potential did not go unnoticed, attracting interest from several clubs. Granada inquired about his situation, while Atlético Madrid also considered him for their reserve side. At that point, Inter valued him at around €6 million.

Two loan spells to gain experience

Kamaté also gained valuable experience away from Milan. During the 2024-2025 season, he was loaned first to AVS FC in Portugal, then to Modena in Italy's Serie B.

These stints allowed him to taste professional football and toughen up in leagues with different demands—a crucial step for a player still striving for consistency at the highest level.

The following season, he returned to Inter to play with the Under-23s and continue his development.

First-team debut with Inter

Kamaté finally got his shot with Inter's senior squad last season. Cristian Chivu handed him his official debut in the Coppa Italia.

It was a symbolic but highly encouraging moment: the Frenchman provided an assist in his only appearance for the Nerazzurri.

Chivu didn't hesitate to experiment with his profile. Kamaté was even deployed as a right-back, highlighting his ability to adapt to his manager's needs.

A €3 million gamble for Espanyol

With this move, Espanyol isn't signing a proven top-flight player just yet, but rather a talent whose value could quickly soar.

His versatility, physical presence, and experience gained in Portugal, Italy, and Inter's youth system make him an intriguing prospect for the Catalan club.
