Transfer window: Victor Osimhen wants to join La Liga

With that in mind, his agents have reportedly contacted several clubs, including Atlético Madrid. The Super Eagles striker's profile is certainly appealing to the Madrid board, but the deal is complicated by financial demands and the current makeup of Diego Simeone’s squad.

Osimhen ready to make sacrifices to join Simeone

Spanish reports suggest that Victor Osimhen’s agents have proposed a deal valued at around €75 million, matching the price tag set for the Nigerian, who is still regarded as one of the most clinical finishers in European football.

The player is also said to be willing to make a significant salary sacrifice to join Atlético. Currently at Galatasaray with a contract running until 2029 and lucrative financial terms, Osimhen would agree to lower his wage demands to play under Diego Simeone.

This would be no trivial decision for the Nigerian. Back in January, after a Champions League clash with the Colchoneros, he openly expressed his admiration for the Argentine coach.

"I appreciate him, I’ve always been a fan of their coach," he said, also highlighting the strong identity of the Madrid side: "They play aggressive football and have a powerful identity."

Atlético hesitant for sporting and economic reasons

Despite the player’s potential interest, Atlético Madrid have reportedly turned down the opportunity for now. The Spanish club believes they are not in a position to complete such a high-profile deal.

The main issue is their current attacking lineup. The Madrid hierarchy are still relying on Julián Álvarez, brought in to be a cornerstone of the offensive project, as well as Alexander Sørloth. Unless there is a major departure, bringing in another world-class striker seems unlikely.

However, Atlético have not completely closed the door. A change in circumstances in the coming weeks—particularly an unexpected exit in attack—could reopen the case.

During the 2022-2023 season, he was one of the key architects in Napoli’s historic Serie A title win. With 26 league goals, he finished as the division’s top scorer, becoming the first African player to claim that honor.

With the Partenopei, Osimhen scored over 70 goals in all competitions, showcasing his physical power, pace, aerial ability, and clinical finishing inside the box.

Before his move to Galatasaray, he also played for Wolfsburg in Germany and is a regular for Nigeria, where he’s become an offensive reference point for the national side.

Several major clubs in the race

Atlético aren’t the only club to have been approached. Victor Osimhen has also reportedly been offered to FC Barcelona, Arsenal, and Tottenham. The Spurs are said to have even made a bid exceeding €55 million, though Galatasaray deemed it insufficient.
